Welcome

Europe leads the world in developing the ability to test and improve the interoperability of fingerprint biometrics

The Minutiae Template Interoperability Testing (MTIT) Project is a major European project to test and improve the interoperability of fingerprint biometrics and is being undertaken by a team of experts in fingerprint technology. These World leaders in fingerprint technology from Research, Public and Commercial areas have come together to bring their expertise in biometrics to this groundbreaking project.

The Minutiae Template Interoperability Testing (MTIT) Project is co-funded by the European Commission within the Sixth Framework Programme (STREP)
(Call ID: FP6-2004-IST-4)

Background to the MTIT Project

As biometrics are adopted more broadly interoperability and security of biometrics becomes increasingly important. The EC has specific requirements to use fingerprints for future visas, non-resident permits formats, passports and travel documents. Consequently there is an urgent need to test and improve the interoperability of fingerprint biometrics.
